Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
