Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of that year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
